The Obiou, or La Grande Tête de l’Obiou, at 2789 metres altitude, is the highest point of the Dévoluy mountain range. With the Grand Ferrand (2758 metres), they form a chain dominating the Trièves plateau, facing the Vercors. Located at the north end of the range, the Grand Ferrand is approximately equidistant from Grenoble and Gap.

The name “La Tête de l’Obiou” means “Testo de biou” or “Tête de bœuf” in Franco-Provençal patois. This imposing summit, a veritable wall of stone, is nevertheless accessible provided that you are not overwhelmed by vertigo and the technical nature of the climb!

Hikes with unforgettable views

Without climbing to the top of the Obiou, you can still go on beautiful hikes that offer magnificent views of this distinctive summit and, more widely, of the Dévoluy range. The Hikes Le Chatel, Bachilianne, Rochassac, Col de la Croix and Ménil are just a few examples.
