You’ll gain insight into the way of life of our distant ancestors—from the 30,000-year-old hunter-gatherer era to the first settled communities of the Neolithic period—by recreating their techniques. You’ll bring fire—humanity’s greatest invention—to life using natural materials. Just like in the “Reindeer Age,” you’ll learn the technique of spear-throwing using a spear thrower on a specially designed target course. Using plant fibers, you’ll learn to make a cord and then drill holes in seashells to create a necklace or bracelet—a personal creation you can wear and take home! Patrick Gâtelier, an experiential archaeology instructor, will introduce you to these vital everyday survival techniques used in prehistoric times, inviting you to understand human evolution through the various phases of climate change, and their impact on ways of life in light of the changing environment since the last ice age in the Pre-Alps.
