Grenoble Alpes Metropolis & the Trièves: Our contract of reciprocity

Grenoble Alpes Métropole and the Communauté des Communes du Trièves signed a contract of reciprocity on January 9th, 2020 in Mens to empower cooperation between the 2 territories. Tourism is one of the targetted development areas of their cooperation.

Several actions have been achieved in terms of Tourism promotion, information dissemination, ecotourism product design, and eductours.

The transformation of Grenoble Alpes began several decades ago. A pioneering territory, Grenoble has distinguished itself in its history by its socially innovative character and by an eco-responsible spirit that is now part of its DNA.

Gentler mobility

One of the best examples of transition is undoubtedly the development of soft mobility. Grenoble’s public transport network was one of the first in the world to become fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. Today, thanks to a network of 5 tramway lines, almost 50 bus lines in the Grenoble area and 21 park-and-ride facilities, SMMAG (Syndicat Mixte des Mobilités de l’Aire Grenobloise) is creating travel solutions that help users move towards simpler, low-carbon and greener mobility.

As the flattest city in France, Grenoble is a great place to explore by bike, with 450 km of cycle paths and 40 km of Chronovélo cycle lanes gradually being developed.

Eco-responsible housing is gradually claiming its rightful place. Landscaping is being enhanced, green spaces protected and construction rethought to have as little impact as possible. Waste management, the replacement of inefficient heating systems and the deployment of district heating networks are just some of the challenges being undertaken, and demonstrate ecological transition as a step forward for society.

Grenoble Alpes Tourisme promotes local gastronomy and, like the Trièves, has developed a “Route des Savoir-Faire” to shine a spotlight on their artisans, producers and cultural sites.
