Introduction
This activity is practised on Scots pine trees, and consists in climbing up to their tops, sometimes up to 12m high.
More fun than rock climbing, it's also very different from other forest
forest adventure courses.
This activity is open to everyone, from beginners (children aged 5 and over) to experienced climbers.
You'll learn how to tie a rope knot and use a belay device as you would in a rock-climbing situation.
This activity is available all year round, whatever the weather:
you can climb with gloves if necessary, as the Scots pines offer relative shelter from the rain and the branches are not very slippery, even when wet.
You can even climb at night with a headlamp.
The trees are pruned to make climbing safe and enjoyable.
On most trees, you can only use branches cut to the right length, so climbing is 100% natural.
On the easiest trees, you may also use one or two added holds or a rope aid.
You'll climb in complete safety, wearing a helmet and a harness that we'll lend you, and the rope will be passed over a belay at the top of the tree.
We'll get to know the animals in the trees through a game and riddles.
Tyrolean traverses and monkey bridges complete the half-day experience.
Supervision:
Supervision is provided by qualified rock-climbing instructors or mountain guides who are experienced in this activity. Often the same people who prepared the trees.
