Pure escape: a 3-day itinerary at the foot of Grand Veymont and Mont Aiguille. Walk from station to station. Comfort yourself at the Aiguillette Lodge (organic restaurant), then spend an unusual night in a gypsy caravan. Discover the authentic, eco-friendly Trièves. Adventure awaits!
Set off on a three-day hiking adventure at the foot of the Vercors giants: Grand Veymont and Mont Aiguille. Your journey begins as soon as you step off the train at Monestier-de-Clermont SNCF station to reach Aiguillette Lodge in Gresse en Vercors (3h walk), via the spectacular Serpaton mountain pasture with its panoramic views. This former mill transformed into a B&B is a cosy nest where you can recharge your batteries with home-made, organic and local Table d'Hôtes, facing the cliffs of the Vercors.
The next day, you'll take on the Grande Traversée du Vercors route towards Mont-Aiguille in the Hauts-Plateaux National Nature Reserve, with its sumptuous panoramas. The reward is an unusual night in a gypsy caravan at La Ferme du Pas de l'Aiguille in Chichilianne, for a timeless experience in an incredible natural setting. Both hosts are signatories to the ecotourism charter, testifying to their commitment.
On the third day, you finish your journey at the Clelles-Mens train station, with the satisfaction of having crossed one of the most beautiful parts of the Trièves.
This walking loop is a real disconnect, with no need to use your car. It combines the effort of walking through magnificent landscapes with the simple pleasure of a warm welcome.
The Journey and the Authentic Welcome (Day 1)
Your journey begins as soon as you step off the train at Monestier-de-Clermont, marking the start of your 33 km car-free itinerary. The adventure takes off on the footpath that leads up to the panoramic Pas du Serpaton, before reaching Aiguillette Lodge in Gresse-en-Vercors. This former 19th-century mill, facing the Grand Veymont, is the ideal base camp. After the effort, the comfort: settle into your mountain-view room and dine at the Table d'Hôtes. This ecotourism-labeled bed & breakfast welcomes you with home-cooked, organic and local cuisine, prepared to give hikers back their strength.
The Grande Traversée and the Nuit Insolite (Day 2)
After an energizing organic breakfast, the route takes you to the foot of Mont-Aiguille in the Vercors High Plateaux National Nature Reserve, offering sumptuous panoramas. You'll follow a section of the GTV itinerary and, after crossing these wild landscapes, you'll have the pleasure of setting down your bag at La Ferme du Pas de l'Aiguille in Chichilianne. For the second night, the experience becomes unusual and nomadic, as you sleep in a gypsy caravan, with Mont Aiguille as your only lookout. This stopover is emblematic of our approach: both accommodation providers are signatories to the ecotourism charter, guaranteeing a responsible and authentic approach.
Return and Commitment
This walking loop is much more than a simple hike; it's a true disconnection. It combines the effort of walking with the simple pleasure of a warm and committed welcome. On Day 3, you leave the Ferme du Pas de l'Aiguille and take the path to the Clelles-Mens train station. All that's left for you to do is concentrate on the scenery, the taste of the local produce and the satisfaction of having crossed, without a car, one of the most beautiful parts of the Trièves.
