THE PERMANENT ORIENTEERING COURSE

What is orientation?
The principle :
It's a race or a walk on a circuit marked out by markers (wooden posts fitted with a clip and a number). The orienteer must find the markers on his or her route, using a map and, if necessary, a compass.
The beacons are equipped with a control clip that punches a hole in the map and attests to the orienteer's passage. Precisely locate the beacon and its number.
For definitions of the lines, symbols and colors used on the map, please refer to the legend on the side of the map.

Course control :
The orienteer checks his or her route by comparing the marker's stamp with the control chart supplied with the map.

A few words of advice before you set off:
Don't set off without your map. It will help you find your way around the terrain and assess distances.
The quickest route is not always a straight line!
Don't forget to punch your map at every marker on your route.
Check the punches...and you're in!

Caution: Respect crops and fences.

Pets welcome : yes

Further detail on accompanying pets : Be careful in the alpine pastures with the herds.
